Are you buying counterfeit emu oil?

According to FDA, there has been an increase in drug counterfeiting activities in recent years. This counterfeiting represents a threat to public health because the finished drug products may closely resemble legitimate drugs, yet contain inactive ingredients, incorrect combinations of ingredients, improper dosages, erratic potencies or be contaminated. Although emu oil is not classified as a drug, there have been cases where the oil has been adulterated or cut with other ingredients and then an attempt has been made to pass the resulting product off as pure. I'm afraid it is true, said Gerald Edwards, president of the American Emu Association. We have heard of cases where unscrupulous dealers have cut the emu oil with vegetable oil or some other ingredient and then tried to sell it to an unsuspecting products company. This concern was one reason that the American Emu Association sought guidance from the American Oil Chemist Society to establish the Emu Oil Trade Rules. According to the Emu Oil Trade Rules, there are three grades of emu oil accepted in the United States: Crude, Once Refined and Fully Refined. AEA has taken this a step further by issuing an AEA Certified Fully Refined Seal to be used on products made from registered batches. In order to register a batch with AEA, the processor must provide proof that an AOCS chemist tested the batch and that it met the criteria established by the emu oil trade rules for Fully Refined at the time of processing. A sample is held in storage from each batch and can be pulled for testing if there is any question of product purity. The approved batch numbers are kept on file at the AEA office.

For product companies purchasing oil in bulk, seeing the seal, batch number and reviewing the Certificate of Analysis assures them that they are purchasing a pure, safe product to use in their health and beauty formulations. They can then pass this assurance on to their customers through use of the seal and batch number on their packaging.

Now in it's 5th year, the AEA Certified Fully Refined Emu Oil program is considered a success, with additional product companies registering for use of the seal each month.

How Thinking With Consequential Logic Creates A Better Life

Foresight is a tool we should all have in our war chests. However, many of us disregard this critical thought process. If I drink this much and drive my car, I just might crash, killing myself or someone else. If I talk about my boss behind his back to the wrong person, I could get fired for some trivial reason.

Almost everyone knows the difference between right and wrong, but do we all apply thinking with consequential logic before committing our wrongs? Probably not. The reasons are plenty, but simply put, many of us are too lazy or careless.

If it is lazy, that can be more easily fixed than that of careless. Lazy is just that, lazy. Working a little extra hard by churning the brain with logic before minor or major decisions creates a more seamless living environment for not only yourself, but everyone around you.

Careless is more difficult to fix because the person is caring less about something that requires someone to yield more care. This is a fundamental disregard for the situation or an inadequate comprehension of the dynamics of that particular situation or decision.

Usually people other than yourself are involved, assuming you have careless tendencies. Let me clarify with an example: You are on a roof reshingling with a working partner, but you are a level below him/her and this person would like to get down to your level. They ask if you could set the step ladder up so they can get down, so you do. By not holding the ladder tightly as the person descends, they fall and die.

This is a blatant example of disregarding someone else's safety by not caring enough. It could also be construed as lazy; however, in this situation it is more likely that carelessness trumps laziness big time.

In this hypothetical example, if this person thinks with consequential logic, they would know that leaving the ladder unsecured while this person is stepping down could have deadly consequences.

This mindset should be on automatic pilot all the time. However, many people think their logic is fine when they pass another car when climbing a hill. Their thinking is it shouldn't matter because it's a new V6. This is skewed thinking because logically you should, under any circumstances, never attempt this maneuver. However, putting too much hope and faith into something and thinking that everything will be just fine is always asking for trouble.

When thinking under a more controlled mindset, logic will prevail and instead of always wearing the rosy glasses hoping everything will turn out fine, you will have assurance knowing certain variables need to add up before a decision is made.

If this mindset is not taken seriously, problems, trouble, and dysfunction in relationships and employment will more than likely always follow.

Taking the extra time to pause and let the brain logically process any given scenario without obscuring its reality, can only benefit any perspective person. Life will consistently throw curve balls at you, but using consequential logic when critical thinking or not, makes for a better life.

Aromatherapy Spotlight on Ylang Ylang Essential Oil

Ylang ylang, pronounced ee-lung ee-lung, is as exotic sounding as the tropical regions from where these fragrant flowers originate. The name means, flower of flowers and the abundantly sweet flowers are prettily colored pink, mauve or yellow, colors frequently seen during sunrise and sunset. These trees flourish in the tropics; the islands of the South Pacific [Philippines, Guam, Fiji, Tonga, Samoa, Cook and the Marquesas. Additionally, ylang ylang trees have been planted in Hawaii and New Caledonia. Near the coast of southeast Africa, some of the finest ylang ylang producing trees flourish in the Comoro Islands and Madagascar.

As this distinctively named flower hails from the warmer parts of the world, the [botanical name Cananga Odorata var. genuina can also warm up your love life. Indonesian newlyweds discover their bed covered in the highly scented blossoms as according to The Essential Oils Book by Colleen K. Dodt, ylang ylang: . is believed to be antidepressant, aphrodisiac, sedative, calming, euphoricIt has been found effective in reducing sexual difficulties resulting from anxiety, stress, and depression.

Before you run out and purchase some ylang ylang, you should be aware of the fact that this is an aromatic plant that needs to be used sparingly. Too much ylang ylang and you'll get a headache. The aroma is annoying to some, but to many it's very soothing and calming.

Ylang ylang is reminiscent of another tropical floral star in aromatherapy, namely jasmine. It has been dubbed the poor man's jasmine as the lower grades of ylang ylang are priced in the single or double digits. The botanical name is derived from the Malaysian word, kenanga which is the vernacular for the genus. Odorata simply means fragrant.

Grades of Ylang Ylang:
As with any essential oil, the higher the price the higher the quality. And Ylang ylang, unlike many other essential oils, has several different grades [or fractions ranging from the costly Ylang Ylang Superior Extra down to the least expensive, Ylang Ylang III.
Ylang Ylang Superior Extra - This is an extraordinary form of ylang ylang which is considered by experts to represent the finest notes of this lovely floral. Found on Mayotte Island off the coast of Madagascar, this grade of oil is from certified organically grown flowers.
Ylang Ylang Complete - This grade is comprised of all fractions of the ylang ylang essential oil from the Extra to Grades I, II, and III.
Ylang Ylang Extra - The most floral smelling of the grades. This grade is recommended for perfumers as it is the most full-bodied and has spicy background notes. It is taken from the initial distillation where the petals are only distilled for one hour.
Ylang Ylang I - A very nice floral and the perfect introduction to this flower essential oil. This is the first distillation, obtained during the second to third hour of distillation.
Ylang Ylang II - This is the second distillation, obtained during the third to fourth hour of distillation
Ylang Ylang III - Having been distilled for at least a day, the resulting grade of ylang ylang is the heaviest in scent. This grade is best used for aromatherapy beginners on a budget or to scent soap, candles and other bath and body products.
Ylang Ylang CO2 - Distilled by CO2 [carbon dioxide, when a certain amount of pressure is applied the gas changes to liquid; thus, this is one of the safest ways to extract oils. Most ylang ylang extracted in this manner is quite expensive.
Ylang Ylang Absolute - This method of extraction is done by alcohol washing of the concrete obtained from the ylang ylang petals. Done primarily in France from the Comoro Islands flowers, the pale yellow oil has a balsamic undertone. Absolutes are outstanding for perfumery due to their long-lasting aroma.

Benefits of Ylang Ylang:
Ylang Ylang is a calming, soothing essential oil that helps alleviate stress. It also helps high blood pressure and decreases nervous tension. Is an excellent balancing oil for oily or dry skin. Ylang ylang has been reputed to stimulate hair growth and is a natural conditioner. Julia Lawless, author of The Illustrated Encyclopedia of Essential Oils, writes: In the Victorian age, the oil was used in the hair treatment Macassar oil.

Safety/Precautions:
Aromatherapy author Colleen K. Dodt wrote: My sister found ylang ylang helpful during her pregnancy when high blood pressure threatened. The scent calmed and relaxed her, which naturally lowered her blood pressure.
As with any natural product, common sense is the first defense. If you or someone you know has a strong dislike for a certain scent, then don't use it. If concerned about safety, always check with your healthcare practitioner.

Uses for Ylang Ylang:
Bath soak ~ All you need is one or two drops in your bathtub of warm to hot water and you should find yourself relaxing.
Candle ~ Add a few drops to a candle, next to the wick, not on it as essential oils are flammable. Ylang ylang will fill the room with its exotic floral aroma and relaxation should follow.
Hair ~ Add one or two drops to your hairbrush and brush your hair. Not only will it smell great, doing this helps to condition it naturally. Also, Ylang ylang is believed to stimulate hair growth.

Blending with Ylang Ylang:
Ylang Ylang can greatly enhance sandalwood, rosewood, or any citrus oil such as: grapefruit, bergamot, lemon, lime, orange, petitgrain, and other florals like lavender, jasmine, tuberose and rose. To offer a marvelous contrast, use black pepper, Peru balsam, patchouli or vetivert.

Ylang ylang is a fragrant year round reminder for those of us living in colder regions. Slip away on a tropical vacation as you inhale the heady floral bouquet. While not all of us can board a plane and benefit from a tropical vacation, for only a few dollars we can buy a ylang ylang scented product and transport ourselves there via the imagination.

Arthritis & Joint Health

Arthritis & Joint Health :

Many millions of people are affected by pain and suffering from Arthritis and research has shown that Glucosamine and Chondroitin sulphates combined have given these people new hope and relief from their painful ailments. Arthritis it causes pain, stiffness and sometimes swelling in or around joints. This can make it hard to complete simple movements you rely on every day for work or taking care of your family. But you can take steps now to avoid arthritis or to reduce pain and resume normal daily activities.

There are more than 100 different types of arthritis and the cause of most types is unknown. Scientists are currently studying what roles three major factors play in certain types of arthritis. These include the genetic factors you inherit from your parents, events which occur during your life and how you live on a day-to-day basis. The importance of these factors varies by type of arthritis.

Even though there is a lot of mystery surrounding arthritic joint pain, there is also a tremendous amount of research that points to certain nutrients that help nutritionally support this condition.

Both short and long term studies have been performed with a nutrient called Glucosamine Sulfate. Glucosamine works to stimulate joint function and repair. It is most effective in treating osteoarthritis, the most prevalent form of arthritis. A number of studies over the last 20 years have shown this to be true. For example, a 1982 clinical study compared usage of the NSAID ibuprofen with glucosamine sulfate, for osteoarthritis of the knee. The over-all results showed that 44% of the glucosamine group had pain relief compared to 15% for ibuprofen.

A long-term effects study was done with glucosamine and arthritis reported in the Lancet. the authors concluded that, Glucosamine sulfate prevents the progression of osteoarthritis of the knee, in addition to relieving the symptoms.
The health supplements carry by StarHerb for Arthritic and Joint Pain not only contain all of these nutrients; it utilizes the exact forms that were shown in the studies to be effective. The forms which are the best to look for are:

Glucosamine Sulfate 2Kcl which is the exact form used in most of the studies showing benefit.

It is hard to enjoy your family, friends, hobbies or even money without your health and joint pain is definitely one of the big contributing factors to a poor quality of life. StarHerb Health Nutrition products formula brings these great joint nutrients to nutritionally support the body along with 100% of your daily needs of the essential nutrients all in one formula.

Are Your Searching In Vain For The Causes of Hair Loss?

Trying to find out what causes hair to fall out is often very hard to do. This is because there are so many different causes of hair loss, there is no one common denominator that one can look to. Causes of hair loss range from heredity, an anti-immune condition, stress, hormonal changes, diet, rest and hair care. In order to find out what is causing your hair loss, you should first visit your doctor. He/She will do a series of test to try to find the cause and discuss the possible treatments for your particular hairloss.

If the causes of hair loss have to do with medication, such as chemotherapy or certain antibiotics, then your hair will start to grow back once you complete the regimen of treatment. There is no need to consider any hair regrowth systems because the hair loss situation is only temporary. What many people do not realize is that diet plays a big part in healthy hair. Research has shown that a diet low in certain B vitamins is one of the causes of hair loss. You can watch your diet and increase the foods that contain these essential elements or you can take a vitamin supplement. While this is a healthy practice in itself, taking too many vitamins for hair regrowth could have the opposite effect and also cause hair loss.

If you have a condition known as alopecia, then there are no hair regrowth systems that will help you regrow your natural hair. There is no cure for this condition, although many advertised products would have you believe there is. Many of the commercial products that claim to be able to regrow hair, and while they do work for some customers there is no guarantee that they will work for you. If the doctor determines that the cause of hair loss in your case is not medical, then you can try some of the hair regrowth systems on the market.

One of the surgical hair regrowth systems that men and women commonly use is the hair transplant. Older methods of this system meant taking patches of skin containing hair, dissecting it into hair grafts and then grafting it back on to the scalp so that it would grow together as a normal head of hair. There are also more modern methods of this system, such as gluing synthetic hair onto the scalp - almost like wearing a permanent wig. This method is also one of the causes of hairloss because when you pull if off, you also take hairs off your head.

Another of the hair regrowth systems is the hair weave. With this system, as with all others, the surgeon has to make sure you have had a regular check up to make sure there are no underlying medical causes of hairloss. With the hair weave, the foundation fabric of a hair piece is actually woven underneath your existing hair. This does tend to come loose and will have to be retightened every few months, which will cost you money. However, having this done at regular intervals is no more expensive than going to the hairdresser every week.

There are many causes of hair loss, if you are worried about your hair loss the first step is to find out what is causing yours.

Be Aware Of Your Reasons

You have decided that you want to lose weight and improve your health. What is the first step? Start by asking yourself what your reason(s)is for wanting to make this change.

This may sound trivial, but if you do not have a conscience and powerful reason for wanting to lose weight, you will find plenty of reasons not to.

I'm assuming that, like me, a lot of you have tried and failed at some previous attempt to lose weight in the past. For me, the last time was about 2 1/2 years ago. I had lost about 50 pounds, which I had killed myself to do, and had kept it off for about 6 months. Two later, I gained back the 50 pounds plus another 8 pounds.

I had plenty of excuses. My wife and I bought our first house, my second son was born, I took a part-time job in the evening, ect... I kept finding excuses not to work out and my diet soon followed and went down the tubes.

After working so hard why did I let this happen?

I believe now that it came down to the fact that my reason for wanting to stay lean and healthy had changed. When I first began, I kept looking at pictures of myself at nineteen and I wanted to look like that again. There was nothing I could do about the thinning hair, but I could change my body. But somewhere along the way, looking like I did twelve years ago was no longer important.

The point to all of this is that you need to consciously pick a reason and write it down. It will probably be more than one and they should be something that is important to you. Important enough to get you through those rough days ahead when you feel like quiting.

Post you reasons somewhere that you will see them everyday. At your desk, ect... I like to place mine on the refrigerator so when I get that craving for some ice cream I have to stop and ask myself if it is worth it. It feels so good when I reach in and grab a bottle of water instead.

We all are starting from a different place. We all have reasons why we are where we are. We all have reasons why we don't want to be here anymore. Knowing these reasons and being aware when they change will help you greatly in achieving your goals.

Avoid Back Injuries Use a Hand Truck

No one is immune to getting a back injury. Even the simple lifting of objects can cause a back injury if not done correctly. Many of these injuries can be avoided by a few safety precautions such as using a hand truck (a mechanism used to transport boxes and other heavy objects). A material handling device such as a crate, dolly, or hand truck should always be available for you at work and at home. Along with one of these devices, you should be aware of the proper lifting techniques. Here are some helpful tips in back injury prevention while carrying heavy objects:

Use a Hand Truck

Examine the load before you attempt to lift or carry it. Remember that a small load does not always make for a light load. Whether you are lifting or carrying

a heavy object at home or at work, it is a good idea to use a hand truck. Whenever you think something maybe too heavy to lift, do not hesitate to use a hand truck. If a hand truck is not available at your work, talk to your employer about it. Buying a hand truck will be a lot less expensive than paying for an injured employee's medical bills. It is definitely better to be safe than to be sorry.

However, even though using a hand truck does minimize risk, you still need to use caution. Be sure that the load is securely on the hand truck and will not slip or shift while you are moving it. Always push the hand truck forwards, not backwards. The hand truck should go in front of you while going downhill and in back of you while going uphill. Move slowly and carefully with your hand truck.

Lift with Your Legs

If you feel that the object is light enough that you do not need a hand truck, then make sure to follow the proper lifting procedure

to prevent injury. When lifting any object, heavy or light, remember to use proper lifting procedures. This includes lifting with your legs. Never have straight legs while you are picking something up. Squat down, keep your heels on the floor and your back straight with your chest forward as you lift. Bend your knees and straighten them as you lift the object. Also, hold the object close to your body and carry it at about waist level. Avoid any unnatural twisting or turning movements. Following these guidelines will help protect you from injury.

Avoid Potential Hazards

Make sure that the environment is safe. Do not carry something heavy where there is the potential of slipping or tripping. Keep an open path. Make sure that the area is clear of water, soap, oil spills or anything that could make you slip. Also look for any objects in the way of your path that you could trip on.

Get Help

Never be afraid to ask

for help. If it is just a little bit too heavy, than get an extra person or two to help you with the load. It is true that there is power in numbers. Ask for someone to help you in order to lighten the load.

Back injuries are very painful and long lasting and should be avoided. Be safe while carrying and lifting. Use proper carrying techniques and when possible use a hand truck. Remember that as we get older we begin to lose the flexibility and strength we once had. Be sure to be strengthening your back muscles and stretching regularly. Keeping your back strong, along with careful handling of heavy objects will help keep you safe from back injury.

Power: Its Cause Its Effect

Introduction
Between the thousands of pages of history, one will see the rise to power of kings and their eventually toppling, either by a social insurrection or an opposing political party, or perhaps the one enemy they never outrun: death. The Russian culture had decided to call their monarchs Czars, the Europeans called theirs Kings, the Egyptians used the term Pharoah. So it is that every culture has a long line of leaders and rulers who have given birth to laws and shaped society and government. So it is also often true that these political figures would have a religious connection as well. It seemed that every culture has its war between the state and the church. In some cases, one would gain control over the other, and sometimes the opposite would occur. Monarchs, by whatever title, were dictators, despots, or unelected leaders. Some may have had representative bodies aid in creating and enforcing legislation, and some leaders were elected themselves, as presidents and chancellors are. Whatever the case, whatever the restrictions or the means of their coming to leadership, every leader has power. By this, they have the ability to enforce restrictions or requirements upon those who they control over. However, as many are already aware of, the idea of power (or government) in this regard is something I consider to be unjust, both on its principle and its practice. The following essay will outline my reasons for this belief, this belief of Anarchism.

The Cause of Power

I imagine that there is little doubt as to the cause of power. By the word power, I mean the ability to influence people through force, essentially, physical force and coercion. Power is the result of people supporting one person as a leader. This support can come in various forms. Either through taxes, military duty, moral support (defending/praising them publicly), or any other method, power comes to a leader by the support of others. In the cases of dictators and despots, they remain in power by both popular and military rule, in most cases. A king whose rule is harsh, brutal, and undesirable by a people will have to have a strong military rule. But even with that, there is the possibility of an insurrection, overthrowing the old leader and replacing him with a new one, or possibly without any. The family of Nicholas II, the Russian Czar, was executed by his own military, because of the incredibly negative effect his rule has had on the land. On the other hand, a king whose rule is neither negative nor positive to the general population, will require only some military support and some popular support. I imagine that a ruler who gains enough popular support will only need military support to defend himself against other political opponents.

The understanding our the mechanics of government in our schools and universities seems to be that a person is elected, impeached, repramanded, or otherwise ousted, through a due process. No decision, either judicial or legislative, can be enforced without several parties examining it, and the interested parties having their opinion put in. The American idea of power, it seems, is believed to be the ability to convince judges, legislators, voters, and others that your idea is the right idea. The president, who has (some of) the American people at his feet, has the media outlets directly towards what he will say next, probably commands the most power in this nation under this definition.

However, despite whatever one may believe about the American political infrastructure, all arguments, all debates, the ability to convince, means nothing, without force to back it up. There may be the process of the president vetoing a bill and the congress trying to get 2/3rds vote to override the veto. One may say that the congress cannot enforce the bill until they can override the veto with a 2/3rds vote. There are other similar barriers in different fields, the so-called checks and balances of the judicial, legislative, and executive power. The only purpose that it serves is to convince people that the will of the government is the voice of the people. In many cases, officials outrightly violate the government's structure. So it was when the Supreme Court ruled that the United States had to respect the Cherokee Nation. The president's response was rather expressive of what I have said, The Supreme Court has made their decision. Now let them uphold it. Power means the ability to coerce, to physical force, and in the most brutal form, the ability to murder and kill.

The cause of power, as I have stated, is rather simple. Power is caused by the support of a figure by one mass or group of people, thus making him a political figure. As to why these groups of people defend and promote this one person, this person they desire to be a leader of all, it is based on their thoughts and ideas, essentially their justification. They believe, inherently, that their leader must be the one with the most military power. The reasons why make up their justification.

The greatest argument in defense of government, which has also been used in the defense of increased restrictions, is that of protection. It is believed that without a government, there will be chaos and vice. Order, it is believed, will be completely ameliorated, as nobody will exist to defend the weak and innocent from the cruelty of the powerful and vicious. So it happens that protection becomes the sole goal of government, though other parties and interests would come to be considered. The often quoted Percy Bysshe Shelley wrote, Government is an evil; it is only the thoughtlessness and vices of men that make it a necessary evil. When all men are good and wise, government will of itself decay. Expressing a similar idea, Thomas Paine wrote...

For were the impulses of conscience clear, uniform, and irresistibly obeyed, man would need no other lawgiver; but that not being the case, he finds it necessary to surrender up a part of his property to furnish means for the protection of the rest; and this he is induced to do by the same prudence which in every other case advises him out of two evils to choose the least. [Common Sense, by Thomas Paine, section Some writers have so confounded society with government.

It seems to be uniformly believed among thinkers that though government (or power) ought to be supported, it is a necessary evil. The primary, and sole, goal of government should be protection. What we then find in various political activism and campaigning is a desire to alter this protection in government, whether it is to boost it, decrease it, or (more often than not) aim it at a new sector or remove aim from another sector. For instance, we have the conservatives who typically are opposed to welfare and social programs, believing that protection should be withdrawn from the poor, while the liberals typically believe in sustaining such protection or increasing it. Some believe that military spending of the United States needs to be decreased while others desire to maintain it and may even want to increase it. All of these activists understand the principle role of government as a protector.

With only a little study on the subject, it is not hard to come to the conclusion that it is an evil, however necessary. The most obvious harm it causes is property appropriation, or taxes. Government needing a means to support itself often goes through this rather simple, typical method of taxation. The evil inherent in this is productivity lost. If man were not eeding a lawgiver, then government would be unnecessary, and so, too, would be taxes. This is only money, though. One of the greater evils of government, sometimes recognized as much as taxation, is that of control. In short, this means the government interfering with the day-to-day life of its citizens. This could mean search and seizures, court trials, tolls, and control in general which interferes with a citizen's activity. But there is another form of control by the government which is much more detrimental to personal liberty. It is when political campaigners manage to outlaw an activity which is neither harmful to the individual or the society, or legalizing an activity which is. In some cases, this meant outlawing a particular religion, and in other cases, it meant legalizing slavery of a race or class. Since many of these issues are up to debate (whether Capitalism, or class slavery, is just, for example). So it would seem that as the morals of society evolve, so do the laws on its legislation, but this is another question up to debate. The last final evil of government is corruption. Since power exists in the hands of one person, their rule of the people can be bribed or persuaded with the influence of one wealthy person. This could include businessmen who want laxer restrictions on their products or how much they pay workers or it could include powerful lobbying groups which want their ideals to become laws.

Taxation, control, and corruption are the primary evils of an existing government. Though government is an evil, it is recognized as a necessary evil, in that without it, there would be no protector of the innocent.

The Result of Power

The result of power is with its inability to properly communicate the will of the people. There is a very old political idea, that the people of a land ought to be the ones who control that land. What is meant by this, is that they must be in control of the legislation to pass laws. Their interests must be the ones considered in the passing of any and all legislation. As to the method, the best method, of accurately and properly carrying out the interests of the people and the betterment of the collective, there have been various theories. Granted that today, as our history books have reflected and our governments have formed, the idea of a Republic, or representative government (with elected officials) is most preferred among current thinkers. Obviously, this has not always been so. Some argued that the idea of a dictator (whether called a monarch or king respectively) with absolute power was the best method of safeguarding the interests of the people. Monarchists believed that people were inherently evil, brutal, and cruel, and that only an absolute authority was capable of bringing order -- such ideas can be found in Thomas Hobbes' Leviathan. However, as it can be seen today, such ideas are remarkably antiquated. In some cases, the power is vested in a king, whose absolute authority guarantees order, with a council, whose interests represent those of the people -- in theory, anyway. It is popularly believed today, by all nations of the western world, that a representative government (or republic) is the most effective method of preserving the will of the people.

The idea that the people of a region ought to be the ones with control over their lives, a rather old idea, has been one cherished and defended by philosophers and native peoples. It seems that, though they are at no loss for words in exchanging arguments on how a native people control the law, this one idea that they are the ones to control it (or it is their interests to be considered when laws are made) is fairly accepted. Of course there are instances of philosophers or political figures, defending that idea when it came only to their own nation, but abandoning it when it came to the exploitation of a colony. (So it happens, that a man seemingly consistent in ideology, will abandon his morality to exploit the riches of another -- though this is not always the case.)

This idea of people in a particular region controlling their lives I shall call autonomy for brevity, though autonomy truly implies a strong Democracy. Though there is a variety of methods that philosophers and political theorists have tried to apply this idea to a system, the justification for it seems to be difficult to find. For some philosophers, they have asserted that the idea of autonomy is the equivalent of justice; a violation of justice, then, would be people not allowed to be controlling their own lives. What can someone offer in defense of this idea of autonomy -- what evidence is their to support it? Well, we must understand the various responses that may come from interested parties when it comes to power and autonomy. When a man is not in control of this own life, be it economically or politically or socially or culturally, then he will lose happiness. The primary being who has the ability to control another's life is the one with power, be it government or military or dictator. When the control over a man's life is harsh and unjust (that is, without his interests considered), then happiness is at risk, meaning some unfair regulation is put on his liberty, life, or property.

In those instances where a man's happiness is diminished because of the rule of power, the justification of the ruler's demands and rules varies. Sometimes it is for his own personal interest. Or it may be that he desires for the people he rules to be something that they are not. He may want this because he feels that he should live among a certain type of people (efined people) or that he feels a person is inherently bad (though law-abiding) if they are not of a particular culture. An example of this would be laws requiring that clothing is worn in public at all times -- in this case, the laws (whether just or unjust) would be an attack on the liberty of the people. If it so happened that the people desired to be nude at all times, then they would suffer. In some cases, the ruler imposes restrictions upon public liberty because they believe they are protecting the public, or at least assert they are protecting the public. They are either protecting the citizen from himself (such as making it illegal to commit suicide) or they are protecting the citizen from each other (such as making it illegal to possess weapons of mass destruction). As to the justice of the first type of protection, there is little doubt that it is in violation of the principle of autonomy: people making decisions for themselves. A person who desires to live without deep concern for their life at one time, and the opposite another time, should have that right, as it is their own life -- and their own liberty, which would be respected in any true autonomist society. As to the second time of restriction, of preventing citizens from harming each other by restricting behavior, the issue itself is deserving of its own paper. I will only say that there have been, in many instances, individuals with power who have used that power to oppress others, either by the folly of their intellect (such as the current drug laws which disallow individuals from happiness) or by their desire to oppress an enemy (such as the censorship laws which prevent Anarchist literature, like the one you're reading).

When a leader is in power, his unjust rule (to one extent or another) will cause unhappiness and misery to those who are being ruled. Since happiness is a value and by itself, a desirable, one could rather simply conclude that whatever causes happiness is just and whatever prevents happiness is unjust. I'll accept this statement as true, for the sake of the brevity of this paper, even though I have debated and argued in other papers that there are levels of depth beyond this statement that make it inaccurate (or misleading) in its present form. Since autonomy brings happiness to the people, (that is, people in a particular region governing their own lives) autonomy must then be considered a just and fair idea.

Before going on, one may ask, Why the disclaimer of 'in a particular region'? On our current planet, and our present dispositions, people are united and divided by geological and geographical differences. A mountain range or a several mile wide river may very well be enough to divide two people, while a grassland or forest may be enough to unite the present populations. Only those people who are living together in the same conditions will know what it is like to live in those circumstances. If a people accustomed to living in urban areas were to make laws that governed the behavior of those living in the rural parts, rules and legislation would be passed that would be oppressive to the rural populations and supportive of the people in urban parts. This could be seen in the colonies of the British Empire -- India, America, Africa, Asia, etc.. The British passed laws that were oppressive and exploitive of the colonies. I think it is quite reasonable to say that individuals in a particular setting, under the same conditions, must have rules that are made for them. Imagine then, that individuals in one setting have rules made for them by one who has no understanding of their setting or conditions? I think that the attitude of the people would be resentful. A small piece of wisdom from the 1800's, At that time the lower classes of Scotland, like those of other countries, had strong prejudices against strangers having any authority over them... (A New View of Society, by Robert Owen, 1816, second essay.) Hence, the part of in a particular region is added.

An explanation and justification for autonomy has been established: the people of a particular region must have laws and regulations that are made in their own interest, because it is this political ideal which will maximize their happiness.

Now that there is a sight for the organization of a region, a desired result by organizing, the method of accurately observing and expressing the interests of the people is up to question. Shall we invite in the commonly accepted idea of representative government, officials who are elected to serve the interests of the people? Or should we promote a more classical idea, that of Monarchy and Despots, arguing that only an absolute ruler could objectively understand the interests of the people? Perhaps such theories are too mainstream. Maybe it is Totalitarianism and the Police State that will defend the citizen against himself and the coercive desires of other citizens. A thousand political theorists manage to put their opinions on paper on the subject every year, and the stream of thoughts does not show any sign that it will cease. It seems, though, that there is a general consensus that monarchs and dictators are without a system of being checked by the public, and that representative government is just, because the rulers must act in a manner that the people desire, otherwise lose that oh-so savored power.

As an individual thinker and one to question sacred and old truths, I offer this one statement: that power is destructive towards autonomy, that it has the tendency to ignore the interests of the people, as it grows the people die, as it recedes the flower of freedom blooms. As the powers of government gain in strength, so the people become weakened. As to the origin of their power, whether through campaigning and election, or through a military coup and dictatorship, I believe that the origin of power in every situation lies in physical coercion. Though it is true that one system of power can be a lesser evil than another, I admit, every system of power (i.e. government) is destructive towards autonomy, that is, the will and desire of the people, a living expression of the interest of the citizens.

When a person has power, either through election or military coup, their power exists in the ability to physically coerce people into doing what they do not want to do. The essential idea of a leader or ruler, with power, does not change from government type to government type. In same cases, several rulers share power. Yet a ruler exists nonetheless. This concept of power, the ability to physically coerce, does not change. One must thus ask this question concerning justice: if power exists, does autonomy suffer because of it? I think only a little bit of research and thoughtfulness is necessary to answer this question with a yes.

When a leader, a ruler, a person with power, exists in a society, all the interests of the people of that region are channelled through that one person, or that council or congress, that collection of rulers. The idea of representation is born. Instead of the people directly legislating and enforcing their own rules and laws (however that may be done), someone first gains power (through election or coup) and enforces a rule, often times claiming that they are expressing the wishes and interests of the collective population. This transaction of power, from people to ruler, opens itself up to the possibility of corruption. The will of the people, now emboddied in the strength of one political figure, becomes suspectible to outside attacks, which cripple and maim the strength of the will of the people. This can be seen in several obvious examples...

Partisan Politics... In the most pure, obvious cases, we see fights among political figures where they use the public as cannon fodder. The evils that come from this alone are various. First, we see that political parties will establish laws, not for the common good or expressing and enforcing the wishes of the public, but rather, for the sake of aiding their own political party. Shortly after the United States formed, he free nation, John Adams become president, as a member of the Federalist Party, and he would come to compete against Thomas Jefferson (a Democratic-Republican) in the presidential election. The Democratic-Republican Party was largely poor farmers, immigrants, and others who were without economic justice but labored in harsh conditions. Adams, once in office, passed the Alien and Sedition Acts, in which he attacked the rights of immigrants to engage in politics, making it difficult for them to vote. The claims he made, though, that these immigrants posed a threat to American justice were outrageous -- so it happened, that the first laws of the free nation were reflective of the oppression that comes with power. (For more information: http://gi.grolier.com/presidents/) It can be seen quite clearly today. Anarchists, anti-Authoritarians, among others, are arrested when protesting, because they pose the greatest threat to the rule of any political party. Brett Bursey, for example, was holding up an anti-war poster, among a neutral crowd. He was arrested for Criminal Trespassing (on public property) while the thousand others were left there. The same happened decades earlier when he protested the Vietnam War. (http://www.photodude.com/weblog/2003/june/22ashcroftsforkedtongue.shtml) He was denied the right to a trial by jury. These can hardly be considered isolated incidents, as anyone familiar with the police and state terrorists will know quite well that their tactics are used primarily in persecuting people, whether dissidents of politics and religion or simply different racial background. Also, the political parties voted on legislative that would give only their parties (Republican and Democrat parties) government funds for campaigning, whereas third parties were left without anything.

A second evil can be seen in Partisan Politics. Not only does it give power to those whose interests lay in sustaining their power and not the common good, but it destroys any ability for the people of a particular region to control their lives. Currently, in all branches of the American government, all legislative and executive members are either of the Republican or Democrat Party. What has been seen since the 80's onward was a shift in both parties towards moderate policy. Traditionally, the Democrats represented liberal ideas and the Republicans represented conservative ideas. However, the primary interest of both groups lies in obtaining the support of the public so that their power expands. As both parties shift towards moderate policy (in particular, we see this with the Democrat party), they gain more support from the moderate policy citizens. What, though, is lost in this process? The decision-making ability of the public. Since both political parties are, essentially, the only outlets to government control, such as legislative and executive ability, a citizen is allowed two valid options in expressing their opinion about controlling their own lives. Either they can support a Republican Party, in which they are voting towards conservative/moderate policy, or they can support a Democrat Party, in which they are voting towards liberal/moderate policy. This leaves the citizen with no real opportunity to express their personal, distinct, individual opinions in the matter of political decision-making. The problem is compounded further, though, by the nature of both party's ideology. By Liberal and Conservative, a very broad amount of different ideas are expressed. Liberal ideology is typically supportive of social programs, gun control, affirmative action, peace, decreasing military expenditure, among other things, while a Conservative ideology is typically opposed to all of those. What if a citizen's own personal ideas involved the support of everything but one issue of a party? There is no alternative. They must either support that part or the other party. They have the chance to start their own political party, but the laws strongly disable and cripple any attempts at politics that is neither Democrat or Republican. Either way, the very nature of government is to disable and euthanize the willpower of citizens, defeating their ambition to become autonomous, independent, thoughtful, individual, and in control of their own lives.

Special Interests and Bribery... Since there is a single person representing the interests of an entire collective of people in one region, the ability to enforce a rule and cource others (power) can be manipulated at one point. An individual may represent a private interest and use all their moral strength to convince a power figure to enforce their private interest. By a special interest, it could be a business interest, such as having the government purchasing from one supplier or by making regulation that supports that one particular business, or it could be a moral or political interest, such as legislating against a sexuality preference or against genetic engineering. In either case, we find that there are special interest groups which represent some of the support of a society, just with a higher vigor in the interest of maintaining and supporting their ideals through legislation. In some cases, the bribes are open and obvious, such as providing cash for a senator or official siding with one side over the other. Sometimes this is expressed in a contribution of wealth through a campaign contribution, or even more subtle, it can be expressed in promising special, low-workload, high-income business positions to government officials after their term in office. Even when a special interest group is not offering a bribe, their influence over the affairs of legislation show a distinctively destructive quality when it comes to autonomy. A special interest group may represent the opinion that only 20% of the population agree with, but their efforts, in the form of letters, petitions, fundraising, and lobbying may be able to convince elected officials of supporting that one opinion, even though the greater part of the nation is opposed to it (in a more politically apathetic attitude). In which case, autonomy suffers.

War... Along with the other things mentioned, there is war. Much like those discussed above, it is a result of power, of government power. Given the opportunity, few people would volunteer themselves for military service, given the following facts: (1) they knew that government propaganda only managed in equating the murder of third world nations with patriotism and duty to one's country, (2) if people knew that it involved risking their life and the life of their friends in an insanely horrific setting, (3) if people knew that it involved the systematic murder of individuals suspected of anti-government acts, even when such individuals were of a completely peaceful and passive manner, very much like the soldier's own people. It is a well known fact that even ancient civilizations are known to have used propaganda in convincing an unwilling public to partake in the battles that were for the glory and wealth of the state, at the cost of the lives of thousands of people. Since power exists, it has always desired to expand its power, even if it is at the cost of the lives of people, both friendly and foreign. Propaganda was born. It become power's intent to use its current power in establishing more strength. Wars were fought. In an effort to gain more territory, more support, more strength, established powers and governments have managed to leave countrysides scorched and leave hundreds of bodies in the wake of their earthly chaos. Few informed individuals, if any, would be able to deny the fact that it takes power and government to manage and launch such massive, bloody, destructive wars.

These three outlets of the government, Partisan Politics, Special Interests and Bribes, and War are all just current forms that the government and power make themselves present. The original root that these all spring from is the one that grants an individual power, oftentimes for the sake of establishing an autonomy, as I described in the section on the cause of power. With the existence of power, one will find that the voice of the people, their wills and desires, become corrupted when a power agent is selected to represent them. Corruption comes in various forms, but ultimately, the end result is the people of a particular region not in control of their lives, only oppressed and brutalized by the law.

An Alternative to Power

Fight War, Not Wars!

Destroy Power, Not People!

Crass

As the cause of power can be clearly seen, it happens to be that an alternative to power is rarely thought of. Mostly, because the way things have been done over the past have typically been in favor of power and governments. Even many reformers and revolutionaries, whose intent it was to change the way things are, failed in changing the juggernaught that was responsible for the euthanizing the spirit of the people. What is the alternative to power? To government? It is Democratic Anarchism. Democracy and Anarchism are two sidse to the same coin. Democracy implies that each person is equally responsible for making the laws of the land. Some political theorists may have found that, with the greater distribution of power, even in government, there is a decreased amount of corruption. And when I speak of corruption here, I mean the will of the people deteriorating to special interests, bribes, partisan politics, war, and all those things which are detrimental to the political health of a nation. Since spreading out the power to a council instead of a king, a congress instead of a dictator, seems to decrease corruption, would it not follow logical sense that equal power for each person would result in the complete amelioration of corruption? I think it would. It is impossible to bribe a population of voters. Some voters may be bribed, granted, but those interested in bribing would find it unfortunate that they would have to bribe several hundred million people in the United States to get their bills into law. Furthermore, the apathy and nihilism that generally surrounds the political atmosphere would dissolve to some extent, since political parties would lose all effectiveness, and the citizen would no longer be alienated by laws and regulations that threaten independent thought. What has power given to the spirit of Americans? Less than half of them vote. In some areas, it is less than a quarter. Anarchism means the absence of leaders. This is not necessarily speaking out against those who may lead the Democratic process, so long as they follow objective and fair standards, but it is speaking out against rulers, whose power lies in the fact that they can physically coerce and force others to do what they themselves desire to do.

Power. Its cause is a collective of people supporting one person, the political figure, in hopes that the political figure will make judgments biased to his supporters. The result is the corruption of the will of the people, as the citizen becomes alienated by a system that does it all can to crush and destroy those who speak their mind.

Not one more secret police. Not one more gestapo jail. Not one more piece of government propaganda. Not one more president or congress. This is our battle. The battle of the people.

Ask Yourself What's In It For WE?

Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success. - Henry Ford

Individual commitment to a group effort, that is what makes a team work, a company work, a society work, a civilization work. - Vince Lombardi

What's in it for WE? is a question we ask ourselves. It is not a question we ask of other people. It reflects a way of thinking that affects nearly all of our relationships and interactions with other people. In this article, I will briefly address three points that illustrate the importance of What's in it for WE? thinking to leadership, teamwork, and collaboration.

1) Effective collaboration is one of the keys to your business/financial success.

I propose that few great things come from the efforts of only one person. Consider these great collaborations from the world of entertainment:

Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers

Elton John and Bernie Taupin

Paul McCartney and John Lennon

Bud Abbot and Lou Costello.

How about these collaborations from the world of exploration:

Capt Meriwether Lewis and William Clark

Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay.

In business we can look to:

Bill Gates and Paul Allen

David Abercrombie and Ezra Fitch

James Smith McDonnell and Donald Wills Douglas

William Proctor and James Gamble

Richard Warren Sears and Alvah Curtis Roebuck.

Which of these people would have achieved the same level of success had they attempted to go it alone? I think few of them would have been as successful.

2) How you think determines how others react to you.

People know how you are thinking about them because your thinking impacts your word choice, your tone, and your body language. The better you get at focusing your thoughts on mutual benefit, the more your words, tone and body language will reflect that thinking. As your external behaviors reflect more What's in it for WE? thinking, people will be more receptive to working collaboratively with you.

3) If you ask the wrong question, you'll get the wrong answer.

This statement is the primary thought behind this article. I have heard this statement, or some variation of it, applied to sales training, conflict resolution, and communication training. In QBQ!: The Question Behind The Question, John Miller discusses this statement as it applies to personal accountability. I hope you will apply it to your thinking regarding all of your interactions with other people.

There are two basic types of questions you can ask yourself when you work with others. You can ask yourself What's in it for ME? questions or What's in it for WE? questions.

What's in it for ME? questions focus on the benefit to you alone. They sound like:

How can I get them to do business with me?

How can I get people to refer other people to me?

How can I sell them my product or service?

Why don't they understand me?

Why don't they listen to me?

What's wrong with them?

How can I get my employees to do what I want them to do?

How can I get them to work harder?

Why don't they get more done?

Why aren't they helping me?

What's in it for WE? questions focus on mutual benefit. They sound like:

How can I add value to this relationship?

What can I do to help this person?

Who do I know that can help this person?

What can we do together that we can't do separately?

How do we complement each other?

How can I communicate my ideas more clearly?

How do I make myself the kind of person that people want to follow?

As I said in the opening paragraph, What's in it for WE? is a question we ask ourselves that reflects a way of thinking about other people and our relationships with them. Learn to ask What's in it for WE? questions, and you will demonstrate What's in it for WE? behaviors. When you demonstrate What's in it for WE? behaviors, you will form mutually beneficial, collaborative relationships. These relationships will then form the foundation for your success.

Remember to ask yourself - What's in it for WE?

Pray Before You Vote

I was hesitant to share these words out of a concern of turning them into a religious sermon or political plight. But then I decided to share them anyway because, thanks to President George W. Bush, I am still free to speak my mind the way I choose.

I consider myself to be a woman of very strong faith. Being actively involved in a wonderful Lutheran church, I can not think of a better way to spend my Sunday mornings. But despite my religious convictions, I am human, after all, prone to wander, make wrong choices, and be, well, human. But it is my faith that carries me through those oh-too-often human moments in my life. It is that wondrous Amazing Grace that finds me each time I am lost and that same Amazing Grace will eventually carry me home.

It is within this strong faith that I find my peace, whether I'm singing with my church choir, kayaking down a lazy river as the mist rises from the water, hiking alone among the sweet-smelling pine trees of some forest, or doing something so simple as playing with my cat Sophie. I look around me and marvel at God's miraculous creations and I realize how fortunate I am to be an American, free to enjoy everything this beautiful life has to offer.

As my sense of peace grows, so does my spiritual maturity, again, despite my imperfections. As more years stretch out behind me, the more I seem to understand how God works. I don't profess to know how Something, or Someone, so profound as God thinks; no, that is a feat left for academia to ponder. But evidence of how He works can be seen in His people. I don't mean to narrow this down to the Christian God; indeed, the God of all religions has something special to share with the world and all do so in His own unique way. But because I am a Christian, there is, and will be, no other God before me. Which is why I must say this:

I do not care what happened on that fateful election night in the year 2000. I don't care what was counted, how many times it was counted, what was not counted, or who did the counting. By the very convictions of my own faith and with every ounce of my heart I believe that God was looking out for America that night. He chose the right man at the right time. If anyone else had been chosen, it is true that we might not be at war right now. No one likes war, whether they have the tremendous responsibility of declaring war or actually fighting in one. It's ugly business. But to not go to war would've been the gravest mistake in American history; indeed, in world history. Why? Because it is never a mistake to protect the freedoms within God's creation - not just American freedoms, but those of the entire world. Regardless of what God a person worships, I guarantee that that God wishes everyone in His creation could praise his name without fear, fear of torture, prison, deadly gases, or even death. Freedom from fear is what this war is all about. And again, thanks to President Bush and our superior military forces, one of the world's worst initiators of this fear left his power buried in a little spider hole.

But this is only the beginning. We are waging a battle against an evil more destructive, more soul-damaging and heart-wrenching, than we've ever experienced before. This is not an enemy that can be dealt with by using sensitivity and negotiation. No, a kum-by-yah approach will not satiate this enemy. A kum-by-yah approach will not keep our country safe. George W. Bush will. Giving these terrorists a big group hug is not in our President's agenda. Keeping America safe from fear, however, is, and he does what it takes to make sure this is done right. This is what a strong, confident, and faith-filled leader does. This man loves the same creation as I do - the gently flowing rivers, the thick canopied forests, the spirit-filled choirs singing hymns of praise. And as I journey down life's road, savoring each precious, free, moment that I am given, my soul will rest in the joy of knowing that I walk under the same sky with a man who loves God, loves all of God's people, and will remain strong in order to protect them.

Apologize for what?

Apologize for What

Terry DashnerFaith Fellowship Church PO Box 1586 Broken Arrow, OK 74013

Why should we apologize for being America?

Capitol Reader Political Book Summaries writes in review of T.R. Reid's book entitled, The United States of Europe: The New Superpower and the End of American Supremacy. The rise of a united Europe is one of the great geopolitical events of our time. The nations of this diverse and once fractious continent are pulling together to create a common economic system, currency and social identity. The European Union now eclipses the United States in terms of population, economic output and it is the largest consumer market in the world. In short, the European Union is fast becoming a superpower capable of rivaling the United States on every measure, except militarily.

The emergence of the European Union as a major global force has gone largely unnoticed by the American public. Most Americans do not realize, for instance, the sheer number of products and services they purchase which are made or controlled by European concerns. With America's huge account and trade deficits, Europe is essentially lending America money to buy European products. This arrangement offers something for both sides, but America's lack of fiscal responsibility is reflected in the rise of the euro versus the dollar. The euro is poised to replace the dollar as the world's currency of choice. A unified Europe is becoming an economic powerhouse that is increasingly setting the rules of global commerce. The sooner America wakes us to this fact, the better for all concerned.

America isn't sleeping, she's at war with the extremists that the European Union, save Britain, has refused to act against militarily. America could set back and count her money too if somebody else fought her battles and funded militaries, comparable to hers, which are capable of policing the whole world against terrorists. Pardon me for being pro Americaof course that's what Europeans detest about me to begin withbut I must demur. America is not the bad guy, nor the school-yard bully. America is ordained and carrying out her world calling. Let me explain.

America was founded on the principle of freedom. Her early settlers were religious refugees seeking freedom from religious tyranny. They were willing to die for the liberties they were denied in Europe. Many of the brave and bold men, women and children died from exposure, disease, starvation, and even the hostile actions by the indigenous peoples. This desire for liberty, freedom, and non-governmental sponsorship of one religion over another is still in our blood. And America, as she has proven in the past and demonstrates today, will go to war anywhere in the world to uphold these precious principles. Without apologies I might add.

If the European Union thinks she can lecture America for being jingoistic or gun totting cowboys then she is guilty of the very patronizing she is using to shame us. The European Union can not denounce America for being war dogs and then itself refuse to acknowledge the immorality in her camp. The European Union has failed to denounce terrorist's organizations in Lebanon. The European Union has refused to acknowledge that the United StatesBush administration particularlyhas had some good successes in Afghanistan and Iraq (free elections). The European Union has failed to act jointly against Iran's nuclear threat. The European Union might have its euro and trade power, but it isn't perfect either.

As a matter of fact let me predict where this is going. The European Union wants nothing more than what China or Russia wantto be the leading world power. To do that, she must eclipse the United States in the world spot light. Will this happen? Eventually the European Union will eclipse all nations. There is coming a restoration, a revival of the Roman Empire. In the last days in which we live currently, the nations of the world will move into positions to dominate the world in trade, prestige, religious and military might. The only missing link for this to happen in the European Union is a human leader that consolidates its power and leads it forward to world domination.
There is coming soon a world leader who will fill this tall order for the European Union. He will capitalize on Europe's secular platformno semblances of God. He will unify trade, secularism, and militaries. He is called the Anti-Christ in the book of Revelation.

You might keep this in mind as the world continues to throw mind in the eyes of America. But America is not going away, nor will she cower under the pressures of her oppressors. Currently America is experiencing spiritual revival. God is revisiting His covenant which He made with her early fore-fathers of faith. He is blessing America one more time because she is humbling herself before God and calling out to Him. God said, If my people which are called by my name shall humble themselves and pray (II Chron. 7:14). America wants more than what money and prestige alone can give. America wants God's blessing on her. As long as she wants this and cries out for it, she will have it.

The European Union is playing into the hands of God whether she cares to admit this or not. She will serve God's purpose either willingly or by His Sovereignty. And for that matter, every nation in the world belongs to Him and is created for His glory (Isa. 43:7). God watches over His footstool which according to the Psalmist is the world. If the nations of this world humble themselves before God, they will prosper. If the nations defy Himwell stick around and watch what happens. God will have the last word!

Keep the faith. Stay the course. Jesus rules over all. He is coming again one day soon. Get ready and stay ready.

Seafood the healthy alternative

Most red and white meats are very fatty and are not a healthy way to eat. Seafood on the other hand offers you a great tasting alternative. When cooked correctly you couldn't ask for a better tasting meal.

Seafood can be purchased either fresh or frozen. By freezing the seafood fresh it can be shipped all over the world so everyone can have the opportunity to enjoy fresh seafood that they may not otherwise be able to enjoy.

Seafood that has not been kept at or below 39 degrees may not be safe to eat, so if you're not sure if it's good or not, throw it away. It is not worth the risk of getting sick. When choosing to purchase fresh seafood be sure and check it out thoroughly to make sure it is fresh. One thing to look for is to make sure the eyes are not bulging, but clear instead. Don't accept fish where the gills are pink, they should always be red. A very important fact to remember is that even though it is seafood, it should not have a fishy smell to it. If you notice any of these things wrong, do not purchase the seafood.

The best and safest way to cook frozen seafood is while it is still frozen. You can cook it by baking the seafood in an oven, or cooking it in a frying pan. The most popular way to cook seafood is wrapped in foil, and placed on a barbeque grill. This seems to give you the best flavor possible. You can thaw out the seafood before cooking it, but if you do this, make sure you cook it as quick as you can. If you do not cook all seafood that has been thawed, make sure you throw away any that is left. Seafood can never be refrozen.

Because eating seafood can actually treat some illness and prevent certain diseases, it can be considered a very healthily diet. Some fish contain the omega-3 oils which help stop certain disease, and help in the aid of curing some illness. Most all seafood is high in protein and low in fat, with the exception of a few, such as the eel.

Seafood has been linked in helping the prevention of Alzheimer's disease, and to aid in the prevention of breast cancer. Women in countries that eat more seafood than red meat have a lower tendency of contracting breast cancer. Using fish oil has also been linked to preventing some diseases.

There are a lot of healthy benefits from eating a seafood diet. Scallops and mussels add zinc and iron to your body. Seafood also contains iodine, which is good for your thyroids. Having a seafood diet is just a smart and healthy thing to do.

Aromatherapy: Esoteric & Spiritual applications

The third and final part of this three part series on Aromatherapy and Essential oils deals with the more esoteric aspects of Essential oils. There is a long history of Essential oils being used for spiritual purposes and in rituals. Incense is just one example of essential oils being used in religious ceremonies and for inducing a 'spiritual' environment.

c. The Way Essential Oils Effect the Etheric Body or Psycho-spiritual Level

The historical use of aromatic oils and resins goes back many thousands of years in human history and traverses many cultures and civilizations on our planet.

In China, incense was burned to purify the atmosphere and rid the environment of evil spirits, in India, incense was and is used in all temples of all persuasions to sanctify the devotions; in Mexico, incenses were used in rituals to induce trance-like states in the participants to make them more accepting in their role of living sacrifice to the Gods; in Northern Europe the Druids used incenses which were sacred to the Earth Mother; the Greeks and Romans also used essential oils and fragrant herbs in all aspects of their daily lives, and many of their practices were learned from the Egyptians and Mesopotamians who were without doubt, the absolute masters in the Art of Aromatherapy.

The first people to dispense aromatics as medicines in Ancient Egypt were the priests - they were the first Aromatherapists. As the use of aromatic substances became more common, they were also used by the physicians.

At Heliopolis, the city dedicated to Ra the Sun-God, incense was burned 3 times a day: sunrise, noon, and sunset. This incense was called Kuphi or Kyphi and contained 16 ingredients including cassia, Calamus, Citronella, Cinnamon, Peppermint, Pistacia, Juniper, Acacia, Henna, Cypress, Myrrh, Raisins, Frankincense, and Morning Glory.

Aromatherapy was used in the healing temples in both Egypt and later in Greece, which also incorporated the use of color healing utilizing solar light. Great glass windows of various colors were built in to the ceilings of these temples at specific points, corresponding with the journey of the sun across the sky. The patient was placed in the stream of colored light and incense was burned or oils applied to the patient as need dictated. This form of healing is called Heliotherapy.

Even as recently as the Middle Ages in Europe, fragrant herbs were known to possess special healing properties by virtue of their fragrances, and were burned in the streets to counteract the odor and ill effects of the poor hygiene of the times. During the time of the Great Plague this method was also used to anticepticise the air.

Essential Oils, via their own innate LIFE FORCE ENERGY , can help change energy imbalances in our Aura (Etheric body). They can adjust the way in which we perceive, feel and think about both ourselves and our environment working from the Spiritual Level 'downwards'.

They can help us have a more positive, relaxed or energetic mood, help us to concentrate better, develop our psychic awareness, and act as a bridge to help us access deeper or higher levels of consciousness. This function of Essential Oils overlaps with the effects oils have on the Brain, but it must be remembered that the Nervous and Hormonal Systems are the physical ranslators of the Etheric dimensions.

The use of Aromatic plants as Incense in religious and ritual practices is based on this knowledge. Incense purifies, acts as a libation or gesture of respect to higher intelligences and gives us a doorway for entry into the Astral realms.

It is believed that Essential Oils, when used in the form of incensing, are signals to those other dimensions where we find our Guardian Angels, Spirit Guides, Gods and Goddesses and states of pure Cosmic Consciousness and form a means whereby we can show our intention or willingness to open our consciousness to those realities. The result being that these Beings are able to communicate with us or through us more easily.

By developing our sensitivity to other levels of energy/being and other levels of our own consciousness, we are better able to develop our healing powers and accelerate our own personal/spiritual growth.

Because we are conditioned from birth to relate primarily to the physical plane of existence we tend to have some degree of difficulty in shifting to the spiritual levels without some assistance. Essential oils can help us with this.

THE SENSE OF SMELL AND ETHERIC ENERGY
From an energy point of view, the sense of smell relates to the Element called AKASHA or ETHER. This is the Universal and All-Pervading element, the Element of Spirit, and it has the ability to transform itself into anyone of the forms of Elemental Energy. It is also closely related to the Element of Air, which is related to the sense of taste.

Man's sense of smell is not as acute as that of a dog or a moth, however, it is never the less quite acute, and man is capable of distinguishing many thousands of odors. The exact way in which odor perception takes place is still quite a mystery to medical science. There is sound knowledge of the structures involved in odor perception, but the function itself still has many unanswered questions.

By developing the sense of smell we are provided with a means by which we may use essences and aromatic substances to create a mood, a feeling, an atmosphere, or change our state of being to one which is more in harmony with our True Selves, and which aids the development of our higher senses.
Most people think of incense in the context of 'joss sticks'. To many people, incense is something that gives a nice fragrance to an environment and little more. But the act of burning incense is more than this, and fragrances have quite profound effects.

Perfumes and aroma have a great power to influence the mind and to lift the consciousness. They can arouse memory and distant recollections, as well as soul memories (past lives).
Use of incense sharpens the perception beyond the ordinary and encourages better powers of discrimination.

When we decide to extend our consciousness we must first pass through the different layers of our own psychological makeup. 'Incense' helps to ease the passage through these layers of self to the Universal light, creating a link or channel between us and the formative energies of the Universe and our own Being.

When essential oils, resins or gums are burned, their substance 'etherealises' and passes to the subtler planes opening the way for the return flow of energy.
By being consciously aware of the incense or oil we are using, and by being aware of its properties, and in tune with our intention, we can work more effectively and more powerfully, whether it be in healing or meditation techniques.

Essential oils form a bridge commonly used by Auric Healers to set a communication link between the physical and etheric bodies. The radiations from natural aromatic substances also nourish our natural energies and spirit. Odors are known to give off vibrations which fit into the known electromagnetic scale and are thought to vibrate in the Infra-Red end of the color spectrum. This is also known as the invisible colors'.

Colors and odors are said to have a parallel, also odors and music, and odor and shape. The notes of the Diatonic Scale (A,G,C,B,D,F,) have been correlated to odors, and various compounds in aromatic molecules are known to have certain shapes, e.g. round molecules tend to have a camphor-like smell, disc shapes to have a floral odor, and wedge shapes to have a Peppermint fragrance.

These facts present a definite argument in favor of the 'Vibration' theory, and the way odors have an effect on the Sixth Sense.
Taking these correspondences a little further it is of interest to note that some essential oils are pigmented, which often relates to their therapeutic properties, for example:

- Benzoin is red and is used to promote healing;
- Bergamot is green and is used in the treatment of urinary tract disorders;
- Lemon is yellow and is used in the treatment of the digestive system;
- Chamomile is blue and is used against inflammation of the skin and mucous membranes of the body.

These colors also have therapeutic applications in color therapy, in which red is considered an energizing and warming color, green is balancing and harmonizing, yellow stimulates the digestion, and blue is relaxing and cooling.
