Concepts Of Skin Care
The concept of beauty itself has undergone such a transformation, that it is little wonder that the change has been felt in the field of cosmetology as well. The emphasis has gradually shifted from camouflage of defects, to a more comprehensive art, which involves both preventive and corrective care of the skin.
It is founded on the idea that many skin problems can be avoided by taking a few simple precautions; believing in other words, in the maxim that 'prevention is better than cure.' Attention is also being paid to the ingredients in cosmetics, to achieve the best results. Refer http://www.cosmeticsdiary.com/skin-care.htm for complete skin care routine and tips.
Skin care concept #1. Growing old, Staying young
One factor that has influenced the modern approach to beauty is the human desire to delay all signs of ageing for as long as possible. And no other organ of the body reveals age as much as the skin does. For complete detail on dry skin (see http://www.cosmeticsdiary.com/dry-skin-remedy.htm) , for oily skin ( http://www.cosmeticsdiary.com/oily-skin-remedy.htm ) , for sensitive skin ( http://www.cosmeticsdiary.com/sensitive-skin-care.htm ) . Modern skin has changed all this. Today, a person whose good looks have proved durable, need not depend on heredity or a substantial bank balance. Skin care is now within the reach of everyone. All one needs is an awareness of the methods and products that are available, and relate them to individual needs.
Skin care concept #2. Moisture is Life
As knowledge about the skin and its cosmetic needs have grown, it has been found that aged and prematurely aged skins have one thing in common - a lack of moisture. A youthful skin, on the other hand, is soft and moist, proving how important moisture is to the skin. The amount of moisture that the skin holds determines its texture to a great extent - weather it is soft and smooth, or dry, rough, creepy and covered with fine lines. The skin loses moisture to the environment, when humidity is low, or is lowered by artificial means. Make your own homemade moisturizers easily learn how - http://www.cosmeticsdiary.com/homemade-moisturizer.htm
Skin care concept #3. Essential 4-step Skin care routine
Learn it here http://www.cosmeticsdiary.com/skin-step.htm
Skin care concept #4. Prevention is better than Cure
Between prevention and corrective care, the former is much simpler and less time-consuming. Corrective skin-care, of course, spells hope for people with specific problems that detract from beauty. With preventive care, the earlier you start, the better and longer lasting are the results. The texture of one skin is different form another and so are its other characteristics. Get all information on skin types at http://www.cosmeticsdiary.com/skin-type.htm . Therefore, its needs are also different.
For the detail and depth knowledge of all skin problems and their treatments refer http://www.cosmeticsdiary.com/skin-disorders.htm . Cosmetics Diary - http://www.cosmeticsdiary.com is comprehensive guide to skin care and skin disorders information.

Are asbestos fibers visible to the eye ?
Asbestos related diseases have a very long latency period. This is the time frame from when you are first exposed to asbestos until you become ill. Most persons do not become ill for at least ten years after exposure and some not until over forty years later. Asbestosis, lung cancer, and mesothelioma are all asbestos related diseases. Asbestosis occurs when asbestos fibers enter the lungs. The body will naturally produce an acid to combat the fibers. However, this acid can cause scarring in the tissue of the lungs and in advanced stages breathing becomes more difficult and painful. Asbestosis was first documented in shipyard workers. Asbestos can also cause lung cancer. If a person smokes and is exposed to asbestos, they have a much greater chance of developing lung cancer. Mesothelioma is a type of cancer that has only been linked to asbestos exposure. It is a cancer of the cells that line the peritoneum (area surrounding the abdominal organs) and the pleura (area outside of the lungs and inside of the ribs).
There is a lot of debate and controversy surrounding which types of asbestos is harmful. Some types of asbestos are thought to be more dangerous than others but all types of asbestos exposure should be avoided. Actinolite, amosite, anthophyllite, crocidolite, chrysotile (white asbestos), and tremolite are all types of asbestos. Chrysotile is the type of asbestos most commonly used in manufacturing products.
Asbestos fibers are not visible to the eye. If you feel you may have been exposed to asbestos, the most common method for testing is a chest x-ray. The x-ray will not show the asbestos fibers but it can spot early signs of lung disease. There is no known cure for asbestos related diseases.

Why Democrats Lose Elections: They aren't dumb. They
In reality, the Democrats aren't dumb.
Anyone who was privileged to bask in the presence of former Gov. Joe Kernan know him as a passionate leader who truly cared for Hoosiers. The sharp mind of former Democratic Party State Chair Kip Tew was an asset to the party. And former Lt. Kathy Gov. Davis was bright, witty, and personable. In short, they were a class act.
No, the Democrats aren't dumb. They're asleep.
The GOP, by contrast, paid close attention to the elections in 2003 when Libertarian Greg Dixon took nearly 15 percent of the vote in his bid for Indianapolis City Council. That put a sizeable ding in the confidence of his Republican challenger. More bothersome was the fact that Libertarians proved they could plan and execute an effective campaign. The GOP took note. The Democrats snoozed.
That same year the Libertarians' candidate for mayor in Carmel snatched nearly 25 percent of the vote from the Republican incumbent. That was no small task, considering Hamilton County is a bastion of Republicanism. In nearby Noblesville, the GOP saw over 40 percent of its vote go to Libertarians in two of their City Council races. In Wayne County, Susan Bell flat out squashed her Republican opponent and became the Hoosier state's first Libertarian judge. All told, twelve Libertarians are holding office across the state.
To the ears of Republicans, the above has the ring of an alarm clock. To the Democrats it's a lullaby.
Simply said, the GOP gets it. Indiana has three political parties. They are vulnerable. In 2004 they responded accordingly and won.
The Democrats don't get it. One would think the party of Birch Bayh would have the good sense to exploit the Republicans' soft spot. Exploit it? They don't even seem to know it exists.
Consider, for example, the GOP's gubernatorial primary in May of 2004. Eric Miller, a pro-life, sun-tanned poster child for the religious right, challenged the man who would ultimately become the next governor. The Republican Party was divided. To thinking folks, that translated into vulnerability. To the Democrats who are not thinking folks it meant nothing.
While Democrats had no chance of snatching Miller's followers, they did have a wide-open opportunity to send them to the Libertarian. It would have taken only 8 percent of Miller's supporters to tilt the election in favor of Democrat Joe Kernan. But the Democrats did nothing. Snore.
The Republicans, meanwhile, did plenty.
For starters, a here-to-fore unknown PAC dumped a ton of cold cash into a direct mail campaign. The target was Joe Kernan. The benefactor was the Libertarian challenger. The result? Kernan lost votes. Those were votes the Republicans would never have captured. Nice play.
What's more, the Republicans kept close tabs on their Libertarian opponent. Stuffing his Web site with e-mail addresses, the GOP received the Libertarian's weekly updates. Any appeal to Miller supporters was noted and challenged. The risk of losing Miller votes was a chance they would not take. Another nice play.
The Democrats, meanwhile, were sound asleep. One Miller supporter went so far as to personally appeal to the Democrats for support. A win by Daniels, he knew, would keep Miller from running in the next election. The election returns proved the Republicans right and the Democrats to be snoozing.
Another case in point was the defeat of Democratic Congressman Baron Hill by Republican Mike Sodrel. The margin of victory was less than 2,000 votes. The Libertarian challenged garnered 4,698 votes. Had the Democrats offered the Libertarian candidate even a modest amount of support, the election would have likely tilted toward the Democrat.
The groggy-eyed Democrats, meanwhile, are outside looking in, clueless as to what happened. But who knows? Maybe between now and 2006 they'll wake up.

Attitude Adjustment 101: Nine Ways to Transform You From Med
Work on your career and you'll make a living. Work on yourself and you'll make a fortune.
- Jim Rohn
Regardless of the number of college credits or degrees you have, the truth is that much of your success is determined by your attitude. Education is worthwhile but a good attitude is priceless. If you search for a college that has a concentration of study entitled Attitude, you will come up empty handed. Yet, the world would be a better place if we could all major in Attitude.
If attitude is not taught in school, then how come some people have great attitudes and others don't? More important, how can you change from a mediocre attitude to a magnificent one?
First, to adjust your attitude, you must be brutally honest with yourself and take responsibility for your attitude. You are the only one who can change you. Be accountable for who you are and how you behave. Tell yourself that blame is unacceptable.
Second, recognize warning signs like negative thoughts, blame and pessimism. Your mind is like a computer; the beliefs you put in (input) create the actions you take out (output). For example, if you tell yourself that you are just okay, you will be just okay. What you think about, you will become.
Third, use positive affirmations. Tell yourself every day that you are an outstanding person capable of achieving your goals. When the woman at the coffee shop in the morning asks how I am, I flash a big smile and reply I'm great or I'm outstanding. Replace negative and mediocre with excellent and amazing. Stand up taller each morning. Breathe deeply to allow air into your diaphragm. Smile more, even at people you don't know. Live a new level of excellence every day. Reach higher.
Fourth, your subconscious mind operates on images and pictures. Before you go to sleep, envision your ideal day. What are you doing? What are you wearing? Who are you with? Are you in a meeting, confidently speaking before your boss and colleagues? Are you on the beach playing with your children and spouse? See and feel yourself in this moment as a huge success. Do you want a new house, job or relationship? Imagine it as if it already happened.
Fifth, write down your goals. The subconscious mind kicks into action when you put your goals in writing. List three short-term and three long-term goals. Then, give your dreams deadlines (a date of accomplishment) and outline the steps you will take every day to reach your goals and dreams.
Sixth, put your head down and focus. Successful people do not spend time with negative water cooler gossip and time wasters. Set your goals and get to work.
Seventh, think about a successful person you admire. What are his or her personality traits, characteristics and values? Chances are the person who came to mind is successful because he or she decided to be positive and upbeat, to expect great accomplishments and to focus on doing whatever it takes to achieve his or her goals. Surround yourself with cheerful successful people.
Eighth, avoid aysayers who shoot you down, speak negatively or have poor work and personal habits.
Ninth, practice these ways to adjust your attitude for at least 21 days. That's how long it takes to form a new habit.
President John F. Kennedy said, The human mind is our most fundamental resource. Your mind is a fertile garden that will grow whatever you plant in it. What seeds are you planting in your mind? Are you planting seeds of opportunity and growth or weeds like cynicism and mediocrity? Life is better when you have a good attitude. So go ahead and give yourself the chance to move from mediocre to magnificent. We all have the tools. The key is to use the resources that we have to become totally amazing!

Are You Really Overweight?
Your BMI = [(yourWeight)/(your Height x your Height) x 705
If you weight 143 lbs and are 64 in tall, then
your BMI = [(143) / (64 x 64) x 705 = 26.2. Based on the chart below a BMI of 26.2 is overweight.
underweight, BMI = 18.5
normal weight BMI = 18.5 - 24.9
overweight BMI = 25 - 29.9
slight obesity BMI = 30 - 34.9
obese BMI = 35 - 39.9
excess obese = BMI = greater than 40
If we consider the normal BMI number to be 21.5 then you can compute approximately how much weight you should lose using the same BMI formula but by changing things around in the formula,
(your ideal Weight) = [(normal BMI / 705) x (your Height x your Height)
For the example above if you have a BMI = 26.2 and the normal BMI number = 21.5, then,
(your ideal Weight) = [(21.5/705) x (64 x 64) = 124.91
you should weight 124.91 lbs. That means you need to lose (143 -124.9) lbs = 18.1 lbs.
Try to get your BMI below 25. Under this number, you can expect to have good heath if you are eating the right kinds of food and exercising regularly. If your BMI is greater than 28, you are more likely to have cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and many other diseases related to a toxic colon.
Keep track of your waistline. Your waistline, if you are a man, should be less than 35 . For women it should be less than 30. As your waistline get larger you become more susceptible to diseases. Of course, waistlines are going to vary because people have different shapes. But you know if your waistline to big for your shape.
Now you should know how much weight you need to lose. Beside your waistline, you should also measure bust/chest, hips, and thighs.. This gives you an indication how your body is changing. As you lose fat you may not lose weight for a while. Your body will become toned as you exercise. The weight scale does not always tell you that your body is changing and losing weight.

8 Ways to Get Off The SuccessGoRound and Have a Consistent
Are you consistently chasing success? Once you achieve it, do you desperately try to continue the pattern of making it happen again? Isn't it time you got off the success-go-round? Here are 8 tips to help you make the transition from inconsistency to steady flow of success.
1. Know Your Core Values.
What do your truly value in your life? If you're struggling to come up with an answer, then maybe it's time you reevaluated your values. You might know what values your parents instilled in you, but you need to be clear on what you stand for and what is important in your life. Do you value honesty, integrity or trust? By knowing your core values you will seek them in the relationships you form with others. List your top five core values and live by them. Start to examine if your core values match the goals you are trying to achieve. Your values are essential to success.
2. Be Honest With Yourself.
Don't kid yourself about who you are or what you love to do. If you're trying to impress or win the approval of others by being successful, you success will be unauthentic. Is the eal you showing up everyday? It is empowering to some to have a great job title or a prospering business, but if at the end of the day, you feel empty, tired or dissatisfied; it's time to be honest with yourself. You can't present yourself as someone in control at work, when you know deep inside you feel that you have no control over your life. Success is only temporary when you are not living a self-actualized life. Passion for your life and your work makes you thrive. Only when you are honest with yourself about who you are and what you really love to do can you start to experience a steady flow of success.
3. Don't Let Your Emotions Run the Show.
If you're happy when life is great and going as planned, but fall apart when you are faced with challenges and obstacles, you allow your emotions to run the show. If people can clearly tell when things are not going well for you, it's time to get your emotions in check. Life is not predictable. Plans will not always run as smoothly as expected, but it is important that you maintain your composure during these times. Don't let your beliefs have power over the situation. If you allow sadness, anger or fear to take over, you will find it more difficult each time to bounce back after a set-back. Get to know your emotional triggers; what makes you angry, sad or afraid and then create a plan for coping with them when they arise.
4. Be Flexible With Your Plans.
Being too rigid and unwavering with plans can lead to disappointment. While setting plans and goals are ideal for making success happen, you have to accept that sometimes you may have to alter those plans. It's a good idea to have a back-up just in case things don't go the way you expected. Don't allow minor setbacks to make you cancel your plans altogether, but have faith that you will find another way to get things done. Take detours if it is necessary. Be open to ideas and suggestions from those you trust. You will find another way if you are willing to receive what is being offered to you.
5. Don't Let Success Be the Center of Your Life.
Success should not be at the center of your life. There are many more important things that you need to tend you. When you neglect or postpone what is important in your life, you will find that you are chasing success just to have more time, more energy and more money to enjoy life. It doesn't happen that way. Set aside time to work on your career goals, business plan, life plan, etc, then continue with our life. If you're always on the look-out for success, it will rarely come. Have you heard the expression: A watched phone never rings.? Be patient and don't try to rush success. Learn to let go and you will see a transformation in yourself and your success plans.
6. Share What You Know or What You Have.
If you have a grip hold on success, but are not willing to share your knowledge, your time or your resources, chances are success will break free from you. Give of yourself and you will always be given. Don't be afraid to share your knowledge even with a competitor because it the long run, you will benefit more from it. Volunteer, if you have the time.
7. Ask for What You Want and Believe You Will Receive It.
Do you state clearly your goals or desires? Depending on your faith or religious affiliation, pray, meditate and ask for what you want. Once you get it, don't stop asking. We often make the mistake of asking for what we want and then we either give up because it hasn't come in our anticipated time or we stop asking because we got what we wanted. You should never stop asking, because you are only halfway. When you stop asking you don't allow more blessings to come into your life. If you only ask periodically or when things are going bad, then you are asking out of desperation. Ask continuously, and ask with the conviction that it will come to realization.
8. Stay in the Success Momentum.
The best way to keep from sabotaging your success is to stay in the success mindset. Giving in to financial or career blues can deter you from your goals. Keep away from people or situations that sap your energy or keep you stuck. Build a network of people that will challenge, support and motivate you when your outlook becomes distorted. Develop strategies that will help you to deal with rejections, disappointments and regrets. Lighten up and know don't be yourself up for every little mistake you make. Take charge of all your trying situations and know that his too shall pass.

How To Improve Communication By Really Trying
Do you ever feel misunderstood? Do you explain your side of things in what you believe is reasonably well-phrased English only to have the other person respond in such a way as to prove he/she did not get it? I'll admit to having this experience and I find it extremely frustrating, which is why a recent happening held so much meaning for me.
After Christmas, I spent two weeks in Europe where I struggled valiantly to make myself understood employing my exceedingly rusty college French. (I was a French major and graduated with seven years of the language under my mortar board, but that was a long, long time ago and I've barely said so much as a onjour in 40 years.)
Somehow, my accent remained elegant. (Thanks Mademoiselle Chamberlain.) But my prior vast vocabulary was reduced to that of a toddler and embarrassingly, I was unable to express myself in anything but the present tense. Neither yesterday nor tomorrow existed for me in Paris.
I realized that most of my listeners had little idea what I was talking about. When I intended, for instance, to mention my hair, I often discussed my horse. The puzzled look on one shop owner's face told me he had not the faintest idea why I had asked for a glove that would fit on a loaf of bread (pain--pronounced pan) instead of on my hand (main--pronounced man).
Upon returning home, I felt a rush of kinship with my fellow citizens. For the most part, without thinking, I speak in the tense I mean to with words that slip from my lips like water and incredibly, people understand! Giddiness overtook me one day when shortly after my visit, I entered a drug store day, and my request to a clerk for a toothbrush was met by a lovely smile and a finger pointed to Aisle 6. I heaved a sigh of relief. I call it the Rite Aid Miracle.
That kind of effortless communication, it struck me, is what I have always expected and assumed takes place between two people. But standing in that drug store, it occurred to me how frequently words, instead of connecting people, create barriers to our understanding.
I had thought, while I was in France, that language was the obstacle. On returning home, I realized the truth. Communication is much more than an extensive vocabulary and graceful grammar. Culture, habit, skill and yes, even hormones, affect our ability to convey meaning to others.
Achieving understanding is not simply a matter of clearly stating our needs and desires. The problem is that once the words leave our mouths, they move through invisible filters in the other person's brain. There (assuming they are heard at all), they are interpreted, enhanced, turned upside down and often given new meaning based on our listener's life experience, feelings toward us and dozens of other personalized quirks. This is why, when we ask our mate if he wants to go out with the Smiths on Saturday night and he responds, Sure, we assume the matter is settled. But when we suggest to said mate on Saturday afternoon at five, that he might want to start getting ready, he looks at us as if we've just moved into the house from Jupiter.
We cannot assume that another person has received our words in the way we intended them. We might be more successful in conversations with others if we did as we might in attempting to converse with someone who does not speak our language very well. Since I've returned home, I imagine the person I'm speaking to hardly understands English. In this way, I do everything possible to help him (OK, my husband), understand me. I try different ways of saying the same thing. I ask whether I have been understood. I have become much more alert to that look in the eye that tells me he is currently on Maui despite the fact I can see him in front of me in our living room in Idaho.
The real secret here is that we need to take responsibility not only for what we say, but for how it is interpreted. It would be nice if I had better news, but this is it--one more way to ensure we can get what we need is by consistently checking that we are both speaking the same language.

Are You Too Snoring Like A Running Train?
Snoring is widely considered a sleep disorder; both for the trouble that it (potentially) causes the snorer, and the trouble that (almost always!) causes those around the snorer. Therefore, an effective target in the battle against snoring is sleep itself.
There are two areas that can be focused upon to potentially help prevent (or lessen) snoring: sleep position, and sleep factors.
Sleep Position
Many snorers have found surprising relief from simply putting something under their chin as they sleep; either their hand, or a pillow, or even a rolled up sock.
This can help firm up the neck muscles; or at least, give the impression that this is happening. The bottom line is that since there is less loose skin (and thus tissue) that can vibrate against air in the trachea, there is less snoring.
Putting a pillow beneath the small of the back, and thus propping up the abdomen, is both extremely comfortable, and also an effective remedy for some snorers. This position helps open up the airway, and expand the lungs.
For those snorers who snore predominantly through their mouth, it might be helpful to learn that sleeping on one's side helps keep the mouth closed. However, many snorers actually snore out of both their mouth and nose, and this may not solve the problem. It may, however, lessen it somewhat; which, at least in the big picture, is a positive step!

* Simple to use lancet device.
Pros and Cons of Ascensia Breeze Glucose Monitor
Pros:
**Simple to use because you don't have to change the strips everytime you want to test your blood sugar
**Simple to use lancet device.
**With a pull forward and push back method to release the strip it is an easy way to release the strip.
**Only needs a tiny drop of blood.
Cons:
**If you want to do alternative testing, you have to call Bayer and they will send you a special lancing device so you can use alternative testing. You do have to pay like a $4.95 S&H fee. Or they include a $25 coupon you can take to your pharmcacy to get the special lancing device. And that's if the pharmacy has it available.
** That means once you have your blood glucose machine, you can't start testing on alternative sites until you have the special lancing device.
**To open the machine at the top can be confusing initially and a little difficult if you have arthritis. Though most patients do get the hang of it after a few times.
**The pull and push back method to release the strip again may have some arthritis patients having some difficulty but most patients are able to do this in a few tries.
Overall, this is a great glucomenter. If it weren't that you have to call Bayer to get the special lancing device, I would rate this machine a 9. But because of this factor, again, like the Accucheck Compact, this glucometer would be rated an 8.
Either machine, the Accucheck Compack and the Ascencia Breeze both are high tech glucose meter that really do help the diabetes perform simpler blood sugar results and feel both of these are the best glucometers on the market now.
Here is the pdf for the instruction for the Ascensia Breeze. By the way, Bayer makes the Ascensia Breeze. Definitely shocked me to when I started using this glucose machine on my patients.

Are You an Older Man Miserable With Your Sex Life?
I am talking about men between 40 and 65 more or less. I know men who have been married for forty miserable years to the wrong woman. I know men who are co-dependent on the old bag of their nightmares.
Have you lost that loving feeling with the same old wife? Does her sex drive not match yours any more? But, would you want to have sex with the fat old bag anyway?
Are you ready for a change? Are you ready for sexual encounters with the young, sexy erotic, romantic, loving girls of your dreams? Gentlemen, we are not going to live forever if you ever want to make up for lost time you have to do it now. If you are one of the lucky ones who has the money to make your get away you should do it now. What are you going to do stick around and work in the business you probably hate or are you going to make a break for a Caribbean island and hang out in Margarativille on the beach with dream girls and the world's top senior playboy who currently has over 1000 sexy girls! OK, you may not want the most girlfriends of any man on earth like Elvis Preston King has but why not get your fair share? Quit suppressing your real sexual desires. Monogamy is not a natural thing.
I have learned that as we grow older money helps with our sex appeal. If you are one of the fortunate ones who has a little money and has the opportunity to be a sugar daddy you are only robbing yourself if you are too cheap to cut loose with a little cash for the company of your young baby dolls. I am not saying it's all about money. I am a 55 year old man I have one 18 year old girl who is like a model from Vogue with stand up straight tittys and pink nipples that talk to you. I tell her please look for a rich man who can treat you the way you deserve to be treated and she just won't go. How do you figure that?
I have a unique story in that I have always been that rare guy who gets the girls. All of my life I have had this talent. Even though I have the natural God given talent to pick up girls I still took the time to read every book ever written on how to pick up and seduce girls. Admittedly I am better than most of their authors, but I got a couple pointers from one or two of those guys.
However, as I began to turn about 45 years old young girls in the U.S wouldn't give me the time of day let alone a date. So I proceeded to the library and ask the librarian for books on locations where younger women love the older man. Sure enough there were books and I grabbed my air ticket to these exotic tropical locations and have never looked back.
I never meant to become the top playboy in the world, but yes I literally hold the world's record of the most girlfriends of any man on earth.
I am looking for one gentlemen friend who is fed up with being miserable in his situation who would like to join me in my fantasy life of girls! girls! girls! The life that is worth selling your soul to the devil for.

Are you OVER paying your mechanic?
Dear concerned car owner,
Do you like to take your car in for repairs? Do you ever feel like you were cheated or taken advantage of by the shop or their mechanics? Do you know it could be what you are saying to the repair shop that could be costing you more? Most auto repair shops are run by honest hard-working people but in some circumstances you may bring out the dark side at some shops.
For instance, never tell the shop how much you are willing to spend without first getting an explanation of what you are going to have done. When you give the shop a spending limit they may have a tendency to do as little as possible but will manage to spend up to your limit. For example, a woman came into my shop and told me she had $500 to spend. She did not start off her conversation with hello, or can you fix my car, all she said was how much money she wanted to give me.
Now granted, it is nice to have people come into the shop and actually like to pay their bills, but this lady gave me a spending limit before she told me what she wanted to have fixed. She thought she had transmission trouble and assumed that it would cost her a fortune to repair. While on a test drive with her I concluded that the problem was not transmission-related, but that the car probably needed a tune up or something along those lines.
But wait, this person wanted to give me $500! If I was not an honest shop owner, I would have remained quiet on the test drive and taken the money that she was willing to pay. Let's say that I told this customer that I could fix her car because I am a nice guy and since she only had $500 to spend I would try to help her out as much as I could. In reality, the actual repairs needed would have only cost $200.
Because this customer thought she had expensive transmission trouble, she would probably be happy with a bill for $350 and she will also think the shop did her a favor. Her first mistake was to diagnose the problem herself. I wonder if she goes to her dentist and tells her which tooth to pull or if she thinks it is time for another root canal? You take your car to the repair shop to have someone else diagnose and repair your car; so let them do their job. Her second mistake was to tell the shop how much she was willing to spend.
Most of the mechanics and service writers that I know of work on commission, and in the example above, an additional $150 would sure be a nice tip. I see this happen all the time and it is so easy to prevent. Sometimes it is better to simply describe the symptoms to the service writer, remain quiet about your budget dollars and let the shop diagnose the problem with your car and how much it will cost to repair.
If the problem you are having with your car will require a test drive for the mechanic or service writer to hear make sure you ride in the car with them at the time you drop off your car for repairs. If they can't hear it or feel it they can't fix it, and you will probably just get frustrated and discouraged by them not being able to repair the problem you want them to fix. Have you been over-paying your mechanic?
Sincerely,
Austin C Davis

ArthritisFighting Drugs: The Ulcer Connection
If you read these chronicles, you know that I have constantly warned about the dangers of using NSAID's to tackle arthritis pain. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs can cause serious problems and ulcers are one of them.
When we talk about NSAID's, we can include products like aspirin, Advil, Aleve, Motrin and many more. The newer group of NSAID's is also implicated. I am talking about Vioxx, Celebrex and Bextra.
The risk factor for ulcer complications is lower with the last group of prescription drugs but as most of you know, Vioxx was recently pulled from the market because of possible cardiac implications. Of course, the drug companies and the government are taking a closer look at the other two drugs in that category.
Ulcers: No Fun and They can be Yours
Our stomachs have natural bicarbonate that protects us from ulcers. However, the amount of bicarbonate is controlled by prostaglandins and in some parts of your body, they can cause inflammatory responses.
When you listen to television commercials, they talk about Cox-I and Cox-II inhibitors. I am referring to ads for products like Celebrex and Bextra. Now, these two enzymes are in charge of manufacturing prostaglandins. The one that protect your stomach is of the Cox-I type. They control the amount of bicarbonate released into your stomach. The Cox-II type deals with inflammation through prostaglandin production.
The Bextra and Celebrex Connection
This is what I call high-end NSAID's. They are prescription drugs and very expensive. Supposedly, these drugs control inflammation with less stomach irritation or complications. Of course if they follow the course of Vioxx, they will not be on the market much longer either. The point is, these drugs were touted for their ability to control inflammation from arthritis with less stomach complications.
The Use of NSAID's and the Stomach
When you are using an NSAID of any kind, it holds back the ability of your body to produce prostaglandins that protect both your stomach and inflammation. In short, it inhibits your body's ability to offer this protection. So, do you have to suffer with arthritis pain or risk the ulcer?
You have Two Options Available
If you feel you must use an NSAID, and I caution against them, then you should use a product like Prilosec (an over-the-counter antacid); or, Prevacid or Nexium (prescription). These drugs reduce the production of acids and if taken at the same time as an NSAID, reduce the ulcer risk.
Frankly, I am a strong advocate of using a pharmaceutical quality liquid glucosamine. Most osteoarthritis sufferers get great results and there is absolutely no ulcer risk involved. Certainly, there is no risk of cardiac problems associated with using liquid glucosamine.
The choice seems easy to me.
